what would make the jack shaft bust in 2 bits anyways? about 2 inches was hanging out the bearing on the primary side, the rest is in behind the bendix. when im putting new bits in, is there anything tricky i should look out for ? thanks

You'll never know for sure what exactly caused yours to break. Does your engine ever fire backwards when the starter is cranking due to too much ignition advance? When that happens the starter driveline gets a huge jolt with possibly enough force to break that shaft? The shaft isn't real big.

It could just be metal fatigue or bad heat treatment from the factory. Who knows? Firing backwards is the first thing that comes to mind.

Be sure not to operate the starter without the primary cover on.
