Man, it's been a while but the best I can remember is that my cams were misaligned to my pinion shaft. Check page 3, posts #25 / #26. The 2 pictures show the before and after fix to my problem.

I'm glad you got it figured out. Sounds like the exact same thing that happened to mine. Good luck with the timing.

You re-timed the cam gears after fixing the 3 teeth off pinion gear, right?

You did put the pinion gear at the 11'oclock position and then setting the gears in place while looking straight on at them and lining up the marks very near perfect, right?

If you did all that correctly, then go back and re-check the pushrods, using the factory procedure.

Default was there myself

I think I Know what your problem is, I went through this when I replaced the crank pin, connecting rods & all the bearings, piston & rings. In a nut shell I replaced everything in the lower end. when I put it back together my self it would not fire, air was coming out the carb. I had the crank pin pressed on at a shop so I didn't think the pinion shaft and gear would be off but after a week of trying all kinds of things I checked the pinion shaft and sure enough the gear was off by 2 teeth on the spline. I lined them up and it fired up first try. So if you haven't checked the pinion shaft out try that. good luck.
