Default 2011 XL1200 High Idle

I have searched all over XLF and the various other forums, and found a bunch of info. on EFI idle, but none have yet fixed my idle issue. I use PC-V (purchased from FuelMoto & using their map) with Arlen Ness Big Sucker and V&H Straight Shot Slip-Ons. I do not have a tach. so the only view I get of RPM is through PC-V software. That being said, I don't know what idle RPM was before installing June 2011, but it idles 1200-1350 depending on temp. I always thought it was high and decided to investigate.

I will list what I've tried:

Called DynoJet and had tech. remotely acess my computer and play with fuel maps. Lowered values in map (both cylinders) from 0-1750 RPM at 0% throttle. This lowered RPM for a few seconds then seemed to "recover" to original.

Keith at FuelMoto instructed me to raise values in same map locations as bike usually idles high if lean. This only raised the RPM until "recovered" to original, but smelled WAY rich.

I recalibrated Throttle Posistion Sensor, verified that Start-Up Fuel and Accel. Pump features were disabled which seemed to have no affect.

I understand that PC-V doesn't have the ability to set idle RPM, but something seems to set this regardless of PC-V map values...The bike runs awesome with the FuelMoto map (and I've tried 10+ maps including all zeroes/stock), but it seems that my idle is 200 or so RPM high....Any help muchly appreciated.

Will the ECM compensate for a vacuum leak?

Welcome to the XLForum.

Does it idle high without the PC-V?

Would a vacuum leak cause it to run poorly? Where/how would you suggest checking this? Thank you.

I don't have a tach, so haven't been able to monitor RPM until I installed the PC-V. I can only say that I didn't notice an increase after installing.

I have no experience with pc-v. i use the thundermax ecm. i do know that when starting my Iron cold the rpm idle will be around 1200 even though it is set for 900 something in the ecm. as the bike warms up it comes down to where the idle is set. Somewhere your idle rpm must be set.

I have an issue too with high idle rpm, but under different circumstances. Sometimes if I ride for a few minutes, say to the gas station, shut it down, get gas and whatever and then fire it back up, it will have fairly high rpm at idle until I shift through a couple gears/get the bike up to speed.

My bike is dyno tuned with PCV

A vacuum leak would create a lean/leaner condition. I do not have EFI experience to know how the ECM would respond. You have two rubber-like intake manifolds, which could be loose and allow a vacuum leak.

I am assuming the test for these intake manifold leaks would be the carb cleaner/propane test? Also, after doing some more reading last night, "IAC" came up a bit in various posts. I located it behind air cleaner assembly and checked electrical connections were clean/dry and free of corrosion. Is there a way to check functionality (Multi-meter or some other way)?

Yes, the carb cleaner/propane test. WD-40 has been suggested, but I did not get it to work for me, the one time I had a vacuum leak, knew it, and wanted to prove out the test.

I am not the one to help you on the second question. Hopefully, Cosmo or others qualified, will see this. If not, start a new thread.
