Hello from the great state of Texas! I have been a member of this forum for a few months now and certainly appreciate the wealth of information in regard to my newest project. I decided to pay it forward today by becoming a paid member.
Now for the purpose of my posting...I am in the process of a complete tear down and rebuild. I have gotten the engine down to split cases and although there was quite a bit of metal in the motor I see nothing that would dissuade me from rebuilding the bottom end and going from there. I am however in need of a few items and hoping that other members here might be willing to give a deal for parts they have laying around. The parts I am most interested in acquiring are a good used transmission, complete good used primary assembly with kickstart, the front cylinder head (no broken fins), and 2-1 exaust in good shape.
I would be happy to hear what you guys have. I also would like to know others' experiences using the hydro clutch setup on a right hand shift 1000? Where did you mount the master cylinder? When rebuilding primary side did any of you balance the assembly? My motor is without compensator. Also, thoughts or experience price difference wise going with a 74" S&S stroker rotating assembly rather than rebuilding the stock configuration (just a thought since the S&S comes balanced and true with new hardware)?

a lot of sugar for a doughnut
rebuild crank vs S&S, rebuild cheaper. unless you can get a deal, the S&S will be around 1500.
there are plenty of aftermarket parts for the tranny which is way better than hd stock. all - all, find a donor machine, cheaper all around as part finding is long and tedious and did i say $$$$$$!

Access a parts book and verify parts you are needing. If you are starting with a complete assembly, you may already have some of the parts inside. Trans? buy new, stock stroke flywheels? Rebuild current if usable. If you have a CH already, clutch with kicker should be there. I have baskets and kicker parts, if absolutely needed. Heads as well. Gather a true parts list after your inspection. Most eng components you should have can be reused if in decent shape.
Post parts list in the WTB section for all to see.

That was the year they stopped doing it, it may be there are some right and some left but mine is definitely right.

75 can go either way. Stock from the factory the shifter shaft came out on the right, then there was a linkage assembly added that put it on the left. You can keep the linkage and shift left, or get a shifter and shift on the right.

And if you have a 75 with a left hand shifter, there is a little zerk fitting under the frame in the middle of the linkage that could use some grease every now and then.

@carlgrover I appreciate the information on greasing that fitting. To reply to the previous comments about being able to reuse most of the primary assembly, unfortunately not in my case. The bike came to me after a partial detonation of the primary chain. It did not explode completely but enough of the links came apart to wreck havoc on the cover, which then threw a bushing into the clutch hub and drive assembly causing severe chatter marks all along those parts. The drive teeth appear to have been unaffected but with there being chatter marks along the face of the drive assembly I fear that this could throw the balance off and cause vibration in the main shaft or worse. This is why I am looking to replace most of the primary guts. I feel lucky that there was no damage done to my case so I am willing to replace rather than risk reusing most of what has appeared to be damaged.
