Default Fat Bob tanks on a 93 Sportster

I have a set of fat Bob tanks that came off a shovel that I'm looking to put on my Sportster. I was wondering if anyone has experience or words of wisdom for me? A buddy of mine told me he thinks I'll need to put a fuel pump on it..

Won't need a fuel pump but you might have to fabricate mountings. Lots of bikers done this mod.The FatBob tank is also longer so seat may not fit

#1 stop listening to your friend. IDK why anyone would suggest a fuel pump for old style fat Bob tanks, much less a carbed 93 Sporty. #2 there are conversion brackets out there that you can attach to the frame backbone by welding or even hose clamps https://www.jpcycles.com/product/720...iABEgKIvfD_BwE. Personally, having done this myself to a 93, I would not use the shovel tanks, but would instead look for flatside 5 gallon tanks. However, those kits are even harder to find.

words of wisdom for me?
I am a happy camper with the one piece fat bob setup I use on a couple of mine.

No rattles. No breakage. Easy as pie to install. No welding required.

Here ya go: Previous experience.

Yeah, my buddy is a dipshit, but that's why I asked.. I didn't think he knew what he was talking about and now I can show him what you think of him too. I already bought the shovel tanks and the bracket which I'm going to have to doctor up so they'll be going on the bike.. I was looking for tips on how to do the bracket mainly but definitely not attitude.. this is the first bike I've ever owned or worked on and I'm rebuilding it from the ground up, by myself, so excuse me if I don't know everything there is to know about it. I thought that was what this forum was for. My bad dude!

Your buddy is lacking in Harley experience, I wouldn't call him a dipshit. You were given lots of helpful advice (including who not to listen to), even links. So if you want to get defensive and petty, that's on you. You want help, don't slap the hands that reach out. I'll leave you with this: if you have a kit like the one I listed, the worm gear clamps are probably meant to help position everything and then welded or sumfin, but I ran the clamps for many thousand miles on my 93 with no incident.

Wink

The kit I have looks like it's going to sit too low to just use clamps but I only had it in position for a minute so I'll have a better idea when I actually go to mount it.. it would be nice if I could get away with that though and thanks for letting me know it's an option
