Like I said, it's meant to be temporary. Play around with it. Maybe you'll have to place something to shim it up between the bracket and the backbone to get it where you like it. Also, check your new tanks, if they're used. They had a tendency to develop leaks around where the brackets are welded to the tank. We need pics!

They are used and there's some kind of sealer in the exact spot you're talking about.. I'll get some pictures for sure

I got it all mocked up and everything looks good.. I had to raise the back mount an inch, the front 3 inches or so, and cut the bottom tab off.. I have pictures but I didn't pay the 20 bucks so I'm assuming I can't post them..

Shovel tanks should be mounted very carefully so there is no bending load on the tabs when the mount bolts are tightened. They crack and break easily hence the rubber washers on later Softail split tanks. On the good side you get more fuel and repop tanks (check fit before painting) are plentiful if needed in future.

It's easy to shim the mount tabs with washers.

You can use a free web photo hosting website, like Flikr or something. There's a thread somewhere about how to post pics.
