Default Whats better about the late heads ?

What are different about the late heads ??

It would be nice to know which heads are on what years etc.

If you have any info post it. What are the specs of different heads, what size valves are in them, combustion chamber size etc.

Harley say's "Bigger Heads" "Bigger cams" But what really did they put on what motors..

It can be hard to decide what you want when ya don't know what you have !!

So can we Gather some data and post it here for all !!!!!

Cool

The 86 and early 87 883 heads have a small egg shaped chamber. I'm running 86-883 heads with Big Twin valves over 3 3/4" flat pistons at 11.8 compression.
The 1100 heads have a deeper egg shaped chamber with slightly larger intake valves than a 1200 head. I think late 87 1100 heads were the same as 1200 heads. I'm not positive about the chamber volumes of these heads, but I'm thinking the 883 egg shaped chambers are a bit smaller than the round ones, maybe 48cc or so. The 1100 egg shaped chambers are pretty big but have a fairly wide squish band.
I'm pretty sure Stevo has a set of 86-883 heads in his shop. He might be more up on the chamber volume.
From my experience, the 86-883 heads are a very good starting point for porting and big valves. The 86-1100 heads would be great with angle domed pistons and matching machine work for an angled squish band.

Late 87-883 Hugger/1380cc (84") conversion. Too many cool parts to list. Built engine on a fresh set of cases, so conversion might not really describe it. Estimated near 115 hp.
Early 87-883/1200 conversion. Wife's bike. SE heads, 1200 flat pistons, 40" Drag Pipes, everything else stock.
