Default Off Road Lights

Just test fitted some lights I had in the garage. I'm considering wiring them up. Still trying to decide which circuit to trigger the relay with. Or if I even need a relay. The lights are such a low amp draw that I could simply add them in parallel to any lighting circuit already on the bike. If I use the running lamps, then these will be on all the time. What I could also do is set up a relay to turn them off, when the signal blinks, so that it creates the illusion of a secondary turn signal. If I use the low beam, then they turn off when I activate the high beam. If I use the high beam, it may make very little difference since the high beam is already very bright. Or I can set up a switch of some sort for manual activation.

Has anyone else added extra lighting?

I have the H.D. Gen II “Daymaker” headlight on my 2004”R”, with a pair of Cyclops “Peguses” auxiliary lights on a mounting pipe on the downtubes. The nice option from Cyclops is the premiere harness with dimming technology. You can program the auxiliaries to dim in 10% increments so if running on high power, and hi-beam on the headlight,you maintain better road and shoulder illumination. Mine are set at 50% and work off the High beam handlebar switch. I ride a lot of rural roads and very often at night, the added lighting is a huge bonus for me.

Thanks Sportsterpaul. Your feedback is interesting. In your case, the Daymaker still did no provide enough lighting, and you added auxiliary lighting.

I'm not going to shop for anything. I am just repurposing some lamps which I already have in the garage.

Trying to decide on the mounting position. The fork tube clamp mount sticks the lights out by a few inches. The device directly on the fork tube brings the lamp in, and higher.

You can have the brightest light ever but you need to aim it correctly to get the best light pattern.
