Default Engine primary sprocket

Recently I have been having issues with my clutch. (1979 xlcr) I tracked the issue to a broken locking washer that has allowed the shaft nut to back off, resulting in a lot of play. I need replace that bearing. To do this I have to remove the primary chain and sprocket. I've gone to you tube and been through my clymer manual, nowhere does it say how to remove the main sprocket nut. Not that it's rocket science. The problem is that it's tight , really tight. And had a "medium" size bar on it. It won't budge. I've talked to "Harley mechanics" ( WE HAVE NO DEALERSHIPS IN THE AREA) and have got various answers. So now the big question. Before I put an impac wrench on it can anybody or possibly a group tell me if that nut is regular or reverse thread. To be clear it's the nut on the engine I am looking to remove

Lock washers are not used on the motor sprocket nut.
It seems to me that your 79 should have come with a compensator?

Usually if the motor sprocket nut is run loose it damages the double Timken and can ruin the sprocket shaft. Worst case it can ruin the crank and big end rod bearings or loosen up the case inserts.

Red locktite will loosen up if you apply some heat. Righty tighty lefty loosey.

I hope it was the clutch basket nut that backed off..
