Question Advice/inspiration for road trip in the Pacific Northwest?

Hi,

I bought me a Sportster - my first ever Harley - a couple of months ago that I plan to take home with me to Germany at the end of my 2y-stay in Seattle.

Basic maintenance (Oil, brakes, tires...) is done, change of handlebars and foot controls will be tackled now - so it's soon ready for a little road trip before it rolls into the container in June :-)

I initially thought I'd ride down to CA and visit a friend in the bay area, but decided to aim for less miles to save my badly needed PTO budget.

Long story short:

I am looking for advice/stories/inspiration for a trip...
  • starting (and ending) in Seattle
  • with a duration of 2-3 days (Fri-Sun or Sat-Sun)
  • with a distance of very roughly 500-900 miles maybe
  • strong preference for oceans and mountains over cities, obviously

Would be delighted to hear/read your stories, comments ideas and advice!
Thanks a lot!

André

You could ride the Sunshine Coast north out of Vancouver to Powell River. Take the ferry to the island and ride across to Tofino. Spectacular scenery and roads plus you'll save a few bucks on the money exchange. Around 800mi. round trip.

You could ride over the Mtns to the east and back.
When in June? I'm headed to Ocean Shores for a "sand and sawdust fest"

The container will most likely be shipped around June 15th, so the trip will be end of May/beginning of June.

All good things come to end, unfortunately - the US have been very kind to me and gave me an amazing time, but it was always a 2y-deal with each party involved: my wife, my employer, the landlord and last but not least: US immigration :-)

this could be a fun run and add a place to see:

granted you'll want to add "avoid freeways" also.

US12 through the panhandle of Idaho is well worth the effort, also if you get down to northern California take the run over and through Larsen Park, incredible volcanic landscapes!

Just a thought, go N to Mt Vernon and take the N Cascades highway, very senic, you pop out at the Columbia river a little below Grand Collee Dam, then take US 2 over to Spokane and go S through the Palouse to Lewistan id, then W through Clarksten through Walla Walla, then W through the Columbia river Gorge on the N side of the river to Vancouver, wind your way over to the coast andmake your way back up to Seattle, lots of varied and pretty senery.

Thanks guys for making me spend 2h on Google maps and Youtube instead of working

So it's either eastbound towards Idaho and maybe Montana or south-east-bound to Oregon.

Haven't been to Idaho or Montana in my life, maybe that's foundation enough for a decision...

Please keep your ideas coming, this is really helpful!
