Default Riding in Mexico

Hi Everybody,
I'm Australian
A mate and l are going to ride coast to coast next year around October, starting east and heading west.
I'm thinking of heading into Mexico somewhere near Austin.
Maybe across the top of Mexico to LA, or what I'd like to do is head down to Mazatlán and get the ferry over to Baja and then up from there.
Is Baja good?
I imagine drinking beer on the beach and eating fish tacos.
Is this cool or do I need my head checked?
All advice welcome.
Thanks

Also,
I've driven a Chevy Luv from Miami to San Fran in 1991 sleeping in the back
And rode a bike in 2014 from Sth Dakota to Spokane and down to LA via some inland roads camping all the way, so I'm no stranger to road tripping the States.

I have driven (by car) in Mexico. You will need to purchase auto insurance, in Texas, first before entering Mexico. There may be other paperwork requirements, been years since I drove there. Don't drive at night in Mexico, the livestock wander onto the roadways.
Expect to be hassled by the police (for a bribe) at some point. Driving out of Torreon I was the last car in a line of about a dozen cars and trucks. Got pulled over for speeding (I had Indiana plates on the van). The policeman didn't write a ticket, just wanted 200$ on the spot!
Also consider this, you will be traveling through cartel territory. Alot has changed there, and not for the better.

In October?? Surely too cold then??
part of the reason for doing the trip is to head up from SC to PA and over to Chicago and then down to Mexico as it gets cooler.

I did watch he DK Custom video.
He did say that's the first time in 40 years.
We won't be on nice bikes, likely cheap jappers.

Here’s another thread you may want to go through.
It’s pretty much on the same subject...and says don’t go.
That’s my advice too.
