Default Swapping frames: ‘91-‘98 differences?

The previous owner of my 1991 sportster cut the fender struts off the frame, just past the shock mounts. I work at a dealership in NS and have been taking home demos, and recently started bringing my daughter out for rides. She now wants me to put a back seat on the sportster, but it’s not possible without the struts! Now I’m thinking about swapping frames. The things we do for our kids..

I found a stock frame from a 1998, and I’m wondering if anyone can enlighten me as to what difficulties I may run into in doing a swap? Any heads up would be appreciated before I get too deep into this project.

The engine mounts at four points...

The rear engine mount - I believe this should be exactly the same between '91 & '99

The lower front motor mounts - I believe this should be exactly the same between '91 & '99

The Upper Front Head to Frame Mount - I believe this will be the same (but check for bolt sizes - something that can be dealt with if different)

The between-the-heads to Frame mount - 1991 still had the solid bracket used for the keyswitch, choke & horn on the left side (the petcock was on the right) - 1999 had the open bracket used for the choke & horn, with the petcock now on the left side running thru the bracket (the keyswitch was relocated to the right, front of the different coil bracket)

I know the later model between-the-heads bracket (1996-2003) did fit my 1994 XLH, so I think your original 1991 bracket woiuld fit on a 1999 frame the same...

I would think there are only minor issues to deal with in moving all of your 1991 parts to a 1999 frame - But since I haven't done this swap, I'm not guaranteeing my thoughts will cover 100% of the issues...

Rear fender mounts. 91 uses curved brackets and 98 haves them made on the frame and use sheet metal covers.

Not hard to make fender brackets. You can weld them right to the frame, like a softail
