Default Which cams ?

Maybe someone can help, I'm trying to decide which cams would be a replacement for my M2,it's a 99 thunderstorm engine, standard apart from wiseco pistons ,also there seems to be quite a difference in prices, I'm looking for a big more top end power

1999-2002 International M2's came with the SE .497 cams right from the factory (same as used in the X1 and S3). Part number 25648-91, 4th down in the table below:

These cams are well matched to the motor. The .497 lift is about the limit for the stock valvetrain hardware, the overlap/TDC lifts already pushes the piston-to-valve and valve-to-valve about as far as you should push it, and the 48 degree intake close timing is a good match for the stock 10:1 compression ratio.

Bottom line, the cams are well matched to the rest of the stock motor, and so long as the rest of the motor remains stock, there are no cam miracles that will make it run better. It's already an excellent set of cams for that motor.

Take my example of what not to do. I went and got the N6 from Andrews cuz I thought it would give me more power but I lost so much lower end and it was ridiculously not fun to ride the bike so I ended up going with the 536 has which are the same stock as the high output there you go! I also went to the weisco pop ups in a desperate attempt to restore some cranking pressure, which dropped into the 165-169 lbs range.

256* @ .053” is a lot of cam. I didn’t know stock bikes had cams like that.
... but I build performance automotive engines and that would be on the edge of street-able.

Thank you so much for sharing all this information. This is just something I was searching for my writing projects with https://buyessay.net/ as I am not an expert in this field, so I needed good material!

Update, I fitted Andrews N4s and initially was disappointed with the dyno figures as my rwhp was down from 94 to 89 but the torque was up from 83 to 89, I also shed almost 10lbs by fitting a lithium battery, got hold of a pair of standard 1200 jugs and had them rebored to suit my +30" pistons, I lost15lbs myself during the drags closed due to Covid season.
It's now doing 1.5 60 foot times and down to 10.93.
I'm quite pleased with it........... nitrous next
