Default Sportster won’t go past 2nd Gear

(2008 Sportster 1200XLC) A couple weeks ago I layed my bike down and it ended up bending the shifter lever a little bit. I ordered the part and got that replaced, I rode the bike around to make sure everything was working and I was able to move through all the gears until halfway through the ride I couldn’t go past 2nd gear. 1st Neutral and 2nd work fine but it just feels like it’s hitting metal when trying to go into third. Any help would be great!

1st thing that comes to mind is it's out of adjustment.
Didn't forget to put oil in it?.... sorry, had to ask.
You should be able to run thru the gears by hand with the primary cover off.
If not, it may be in the tranny compartment.
I'd say try to adjust it and go from there.

Yes, I do have oil in it, and I am able to run through the gears by hand. And by adjustment do you mean the shifter lever? Don’t have much knowledge on motorcycles just trying to see if I can fix it before taking to a shop

My '09 kinda did the same, only it was hard to shift up into 4th. Started acting up at 70,000 miles. All other shifting was fine until the grenade plate started to fail. At that point it wouldn't shift up from 3rd. Ended replacing the entire shifting mechanism, along with the clutch. Hope you have better luck. I took it to the dealer. Expensive, but 50,000 miles later, it's still working fine.

Yes, the shifter lever, as per the service manual.
You do have the service manual?

There is a chance that when the bike went down a pawl spring may have fallen out.You will need to remove the primary cover and look for the spring. There is a you tube video out there describing this spring. Good Luck.

FSM is the bible for maintaining your own bike. They can be pricey, but so is going to the shop for repairs.

I turned a few items into a pic from the 2007 FSM.
I can't find any adjustments but the spring installation is important as shown below.

I really appreciate that, I just put in a new shifter pawl because the previous one was bent so I did check the springs on the new one. I messed with bike some more yesterday and I’m able to shift through the gears with my foot now but the shifter pawl has to click back into place to go to the next gear. I am not sure if that is normal considering the last shifter pawl never needed to click back before shifting again
