Default Aftermarket peg mount issue

The rigid frame i picked up for a '76 XLCH motor has worked great for fitment of motor, wheels and front end, everything but foot pegs. I'm trying to install stock mid-control pegs for a '76, but the mounts on the frame are pretty fat, smooth and without a notch in the middle for the tightening bolt.

The stock pegs are splined and require that notching to set correctly. Is the only real option to file the splines down and notch the mounts manually? Seems like there would be another way.

Pics below are not my bike but the type of pegs i have.

hmm, we seemed to have missed this thread. 6 days and no comments. did you end up filing down the center of the peg mounts? did your foot rests mount ok?

a pic of peg mount tab on frame might be helpful. maybe another peg option better. if you really want this to happen get a couple of the splined mounts from a donor frame hopefully already wrecked, cut your rigid frame mounts back and weld splined mounts to them.

Are you sure they have not been covered in bondo?

Why would anyone weld on stubbs that were not prepped for pegs?

I am guessing someone covered them with body filler to "smooth them out".

Thanks for following up. Had to file the center and bring the diameter down a bit. Seems to mount fine now other than having two right-side pegs!

Def. not bondo, sanded the paint off and both mounts are solid. Weird a frame made for ironheads wouldn't be peg ready from the outset.
