Rubbermount_EFI Windshield

I have a couple of questions about windshields for a 2004 Roadster. I know this is the EFI gang, I'm here because there seems to be more traffic here.

Is the H-D quick disconnect windshield sized to look just over it or does one look through it? I like the look and style of the H-D windshield.

Is the quick disconnect the only mounting system on the H-D windshields? Do they have a mounting system that requires tools to mount?

Can anyone recommend others that may be similar to the H-D and perform well?

Note: Not looking to spend big, it won't be on very often.

All makes of windshields will have some adjustability, and further modification can be done by the owner. The quick detach models, not just H.D.’s, are very handy for that feature. There are threads on site regarding persons experiences that you might find useful. Use the “Google “ search function at the bottom of the page will give threads from hear as well as other forums. I have three Sportsters and run small screens and small fairings on them. Relief of chest pressure from wind, especially above 55m.p.h. Is great. That said I do prefer “naked” bikes. Keep it safe.

Which windshield are you referring to? H-D has several quick disconnect windshields of differing sizes. I have the largest, a "Touring" shield that offers the most coverage. I look through it, but it's there because it keeps the cold off me at this time of year. It also helps keep me from getting tired from fighting the wind, when I'm on the road putting in higher mileage days.

I like the Quick Disconnect feature, because I don't like to use a windshield when I'm in town and only making short runs. Being able to remove and install the windshield quickly is a definite plus.

Looking for the traditional style. Short enough to see just over it. In my opinion this bike has enough heft that the traditional style will look good.

Tried the H-D site but it has been unresponsive, it won't load up. The closest dealer is 45 miles away. I'll get a used on off ebay if I know what to look for.

Or a decent looking aftermarket one. But so far I see they're kinda steep and the docking hardware is almost as much as the screen. It blows being poor.

Anyways trying to get educated about this. Any recommendations? Any pics? H-D OEM, quick release or not, aftermarket?

There is a couple of different mounting brackets for the screens. I have 2 here. The spacing of the quick disconnect clamps are spaced at 3 3/4" on the ones that came stock with my T and the other has a spacing of 6" on one picked up second hand that may not actually be specified for a Sportster.

The 6" spacing just fits between the triple trees so there is no movement.

The 3 3/4" spacing gives me a couple of inches of height adjustment.
