I can't comment on your bike or setup but E-10 has between 3 and 4 % percent less energy than gasoline. I have also heard some others say that there was a very noticeable difference in mileage on their machines. That said, I can say that on my bike, I really don't notice much mileage difference between the two although I'm sure there is a small measurable difference if I actually cared to measure it accurately.

Is it running? Take it for a ride.
V6 cams has 264 duration with 490 lift. Would make sense to run for higher compression with 883 heads.
Even dished pistons can have up to 10.5:1
I'm no expert, but would think it should run pretty good.

I had 883 heads that were ported by yours truly, n8 cams, flattop pistons, smoothed chambers, thunderheader, and super E. I made 74 h.p. and 78 torque with 105 ambinent temp in the dyno room. The bike would wheelie on throttle and was fun to ridethat way. I liked the combo.

I know i will need to run higher octane (been told E-85 will work wonders, like it does in turbo cars, high comp. motors etc. to take care of spark knock) but I just wanted a few more opinions. Hopefully I got myself a runner.. Anybody else have a motor similar? 1200 with 883 heads? let me know what your ideas are or what you know?!?! Thanks in advance to everyone who can help me out!!!

I have an "01 883>1200.
It's got Wiseco 10.0:1 dishtop pistons, .536 cams, worked-over 883 heads and it will slide you off the seat and lift the front end if you whack the throttle coming out of a turn.
Haven't had it dynoed in this configuration yet, but it was making 74 hp and 79 ft-lbs before the cams and w/ different pipes.
I run premium gas and try to find non-e10 stuff when I can to keep the pinging away.

Thanks to all that replied. I have been extremely busy and not had much time to get on and reply to anyone. To answer a few questions, the heads ARE STOCK, I'm doing research on the E85, but I have been told it should work.. suggested was to mix with gasoline, slowly increasing the amount of E85 until i found the right ratio or found out it was fine with running on E85 alone.. this will be researched more.. It sounds like this motor will be a lil finicky, but lots of fun.. I'm not planning on riding it across the country, just taking it out and ridin' the shit out of it on nice days when I've got the time.. so economically friendly is no big deal here.. I guess getting it to run at its best will just be a matter of trials until I find out what works best.. A learning experience thtat will stick with me for and be nice to know for future refference in future motors i purchase/build.. Just another day in the modified life.
