Slide tool over the pinion and tighten the two 3/8-16 capscrews making sure the bottom edge is tight against the case.

Just another reason why I like this forum. That's a fine piece of cleverly designed tooling Gcram. Where do I place an order?

If you notice my tool "is in the cam chest" not the primary side and it's clamped directly directly to the pinion gear. My primary has never been open.

Most store bought locking tools are nothing more than a 4" bar of steel that you wedge between the teeth of the pinion gear and the inside wall of the case. My tool clamps directly on the outside diameter of the pinion gear instead of putting all the pressure on the single tooth. Then the two 1/4-20 bolts that attach my tool to the case spreads all that torque load over a wide area instead of a single corner inside the case.
I believe Bitpusher mentioned that a member here had a problem and it broke a tooth off the pinion. I would be happy that the tooth broke and not a piece of the case.

I made the pinion tool and a tool that's a knock off of the tool that Jim's makes to drill out broken exhaust studs this week at work. I don't know if I'll ever need to drill out a broken exhaust stud, but I have a tool to do it now.
I just like tools.

Thanks Grind. Without your concept and prototype, I'd be out there hanging on a breaker-bar with a chunk of steel, aluminum or a brass hinge wedged between the corner of the case and a tooth on the gear.

I just torqued the pinion nut on my 4 speed and I found that a 30mm box wrench fits nicely on the pinion gear. I like that it was engaging many teeth at once, rather than just one like when you jam something in there to lock it.
