Default Speedometer upgrades

I just got a 91 883 hugger for the wife. I am installing a 21" front wheel off an early 2000's 883. My question is, if I delete the wheel drive speedo unit, is there a way to convert to digital or have a pickup located somewhere else? This will be my first bike project so forgive my lack of knowledge and wish me luck. Thank you

A vehicle speed sensor is required and compatible speedo.
Might want to search for a speedo and sensor kit...do not know if available.
When I installed a digital speedo on my V8 Datsun P/U, speed sensing came from a magnet attached to the driveshaft.

Sources for speed sensor

NOTE:
1. No instructions
2. No bracket
3. No target to trigger sensor

So proceed with caution, as factory fitment is into transmission

Have a look at these links from a google search (digital wheel speed sensor):

Thanks for the info. I'll dig into this. Judt fit the 21" wheel on. Now I have to get spacers machined, then figure out something for the speedometer

If my speedo will fail I'm thinking of going for a GPS one.

That is a practical thought, although mounting may not be as streamlined.
I took a GPS for the first time riding, last month.
1. Accurate speed display
2. Speed limit visible, most of the time
3. Arrival time computed, so that I could advise friends of arrival time

Exactly, It could be hard to mount when you have a handlebar mounted speedo. However, I have an EZ-Bob gas tank with an FLH type dashboard in the middle of the tank. That will give me some more room to play with. But I'm looking at an analog looking type of meter.

Not this one in particular but to get an idea what I mean:
