Either way, glad to hear your both ok. Basic travel rules, stop in populated areas, unfortunetaly.
As for police, no BS, I know people specifically instructed by police in the police station, to arrange to deposit $50k into back window of cab when it arrives in front of POLICE station. Do not look at occupants and we will excuse the accidental death that had occured in our country. Mind you this was during a certain time when a race was occurring down their peninsula attended by know entrants that have extensive amounts of disposable income. Guess where I get to go in a few short weeks!!
There is good/bad everywhere. Vigilance is paramount.
Yes, I had gotten complacent. After 40 years of being down there quite regularly, I broke a basic rule and stopped where there was no one else.

If/when we go back, it will be with bear spray, but 99.999% chance will never be in a situation to need it. Should not have painted a target on us by riding the red TG around, then to stop in a place where there was no one else...not smart.

Does give me comfort as opposed to being naked.
I always have a folding knife clipped to my front pocket...never had an issue going in or out of Canada or Mexico with it. Blade is only 3". Machete is a great idea!

I didn’t want to say it first... but that’s what I’ve always been advised when traveling outside the USA and venturing out on my own ....Never stop in isolated places.

Heck, I’ve had some close calls in the USA.

Really glad to hear that you two are physically OK...

Did you make it back to the USA or are you still making plans?

Bad things can happen anywhere - but when it happens in a place without honest & helpful officials you are doubly victimized...

The trash in Mexico know only the criminals are carrying. That's a problem and one far less likely to happen here in the good ole USA. Bad guys get shot here trying to rob the wrong person.
Corrupt cops is another problem there.
Americans are targets.

Glad you are okay and it was not worse for you and your wife.

Just read this, this morning, currently Mexico is near the end of my Bucket List:

https://www.yahoo.com/news/mexican-m...233332183.html

"The number of bodies recovered from a mass grave in Mexico near the Arizona border has risen to 42 after three days of searching, the Sonora attorney general's office said."

Yep, I knew better!

There's place in Memphis the police don't go!
