Hopefully I won't break much. In the last year this bike has had new tyres, wheel bearings, brake pads, tyres, chain, sprockets, fork seals, rear shocks and of course trans. That'll do for now
A race bike would be wasted on me, I never move very fast

That's weird.
Most guys think they're really fast.
Until they get on a race track.
But you just do it for the fun. You have the fun of building the race bike. You can have fin on the track with it when it's done. (Don't even have to race it - just do ride days).
You get to meet a much better class of people. Historic racers are the nicest people you'll ever meet.
Race meetings themselves are huge social occasions where everyone LIKES the nise your bike makes. People encourage you to go faster. And they share their beer with you afterwards.
