Default Ironhead piston

A couple of clearance issues come to mind like quish and radial clearance to valve pocket too small.Weak valve springs at high rpms can loose control of the valve. Carbon buildup in a tired cylinder. Is this happening in a new build?

Flywheel pinion shaft not timed to the rest of the valve train would do it. Made that mistake myself once.

While building my 4 and 5/8's stroker I sent heads off to have seats installed, valves and springs. Of course I upgraded my 900 heads to 1000 valves. The SIFTON Titan cams are not an exceptionally high lift but I clayed the front piston valve pockets when I went together and found the engine would not turn over. The S&S pistons had to have the intake valve pockets flycut to create enough clearance. Engine building 101.
