It sounds like your switch works fine, it's just designed to be pushed in to be "OFF" and extends as you pull the lever to switch to "ON"

That does sound like the answer, they seem to have sent him a normally open switch. Your question about him holding the front brake lever and hitting the brake pedal is the key, has that test been done?

Not quite ---- He doesn't have the switch mounted in place - So the lever is not part of the equation...

AT THE MOMENT, when the keyswitch is turned ON, the brake light comes on - When he presses the button - which he is holding in his hand - the brake light goes out...

THIS IS THE RIGHT OPERATION...

WHEN THE SWITCH IS MOUNTED CORRECTLY, and the lever is not pulled, the lever holds that button in and the Brake Light is NOT ON - when the lever is pulled, THEN the switch button is released & the switch contacts close and the power is sent to the Brake Light...

When i push in the lever button and press the back brakes it does work now. When i put it all together the front brake lever doesn't work but the back brake works fine.

The front switch is tricky getting it to mate correctly with the lever - The manual mentioned about putting a piece of cardboard into the switch/lever cavity to keep the proper orientation...



When you reassemble a new switch in there, it's important to get the switch properly oriented so the lever activates it correctly...

Then you're not mounting the switch properly for the lever to work...

This is a STOCK LEVER, right? With STOCK SWITCH HOUSING, right?

If the Rear Brake Switch works, then the Front Brake Switch is being held in --- If it then does not light the Brake Light when the lever is pulled, I am assuming the button of the switch is not releasing at that time (when the lever is pulled)...

Check the switch positioning to be sure it is not binding the switch button and keeping it from being released when the lever is pulled...

Okay so I open it back up and found out it was pressing against the side thus making it stick in when putting it all together. The wires are pressing against the switch top/side. I don't think this is the stock handle bar controls or handlebars for that matter. I'll have to make some kind of shim block to keep it in place.

Thank you everyone who help me figure this frustrating issue out you guys really are awesome! I know I'm going to have to replace the whole front control system soon with the right setup. From what i can tell it can run a lot and even more if i have someone else do it.

I have a lot of respect for this place, thank you guys again.

You are at the right place to save money and increase your knowledge about YOUR bike... If you are even somewhat mechanical (and willing), most projects on a Sportster are able to be self-accomplished... This forum has plenty of hands-on riders who can give advice and help resolve problems...

When you are ready to replace the bars & controls, post up another thread... That will give folks a chance to see what you are up to...
