TechRep, fantastic write up and great pics of the whole process. Ingenious way to mount the tank, to get it aligned properly, and the look is spot on!

Great Job!

REviving this thread as its awesome and im sure tons of people want to do this,

but what do you guys thing the odds of being able to pull this off on a EFI sporty would be. I cant find any pictures of the bottom of a dyna tank to see if the efi systems match up. Then again im not really that sure what to look for

The bottom of the tank is pretty straight forward with a bung and crossover tube.
Because the fuel injected tank has the attachments inside for the pump etc, my guess would be that if you used the Dyna tank with the Dyna pump/parts, it should be no problem. Your original harness already has the pump wiring.
The tank I used for this conversion was a fuel injected tank. I just did not use the fuel pump because my bike is a carb motor and I only needed to wire the gauge.
It would be interesting to compare a Dyna EFI tank parts list with a Sportster EFI tank parts list. My guess would be that the pump itself, minus the mounting and tubing would be the same number.

OK so i did all the research to see if this was possible and heres my findings,

The main problem that we would be running into doing this is that the efi on the dnas bolt in from the top. So we would have to either figure out how to get the sporty one in there but its made to come from the bottom, or rewire the dyna one. There hasnt been much said on the volume thats going through the unit. The next problem is the fuel line connector to the tank. The sporty uses teh funny airhose like connecter while the dyna doesnt and it doesnt seam like theres a way to get it to fut unless you cut out a sporty connector and out it on a dyna tank via welding or you splice the line on the sporty engine somewhere between the throttle body and the tank.

SO! it can be done:
Dyna tank ~200
dyna efi~ 250
custom work to either cut and splice lines or weld on sporty connector~???
fabbing up brackets to fit dyna tank~ 5
center console~??

So hopefully someone will read this and turn it into a winter project

Did anyone ever say if this or another tank like it would work on a pr-03?

I love the beefy look of this conversion. I have the XL 1200 L and would love this look. My bike is an 09 and I keep running in to the EFI issue. Would this conversion work on the 09. This is my first bike and I have no mechanical skills or knowledge whatsoever. On a side note, you did such a great job, have you thought about putting a kit together and selling it complete with brackets to someone like me with no access to the tools to do create them? If your interested, send me a private message.
