speed up, to get through it faster!

jk--I find that with my bike lowered, it's not a big issue. I may get blown around on top of my bike, but the bike is pretty solid.

I could handle it while riding, stopping for the light was a mistake. Next time I would pop it on the kickstand for stability until the traffic clears.

I handle strong cross winds by tightening my butt cheeks and yelling, "oh shittttt".

It just feels like the wind is blowing the tires out from under you, but in reality, you still aren't leaning as far as you could in a corner. Just stay relaxed and let the wind determine your angle.

If the roads are wet (typhoon in Okinawa back around 1970), the wind can put you into a slide, straight across the road in front of oncoming traffic. Don't panic, just go with it. Turns out that in my case once it pushed me into the gravel on the other side of the road, I got the traction I needed. The guy coming head on at me got a story to tell for the rest of his lifetime I am sure. That was due to a hill on my right which blocked the wind for a bit, and when I passed that hill, the wind took over again.

When you stop use both feet and spread them as far apart as is comfortable, because like was mentioned earlier, the wind can buffet you in both directions.

Enjoy the adventure, you will develop a list of really cool stories. Or die trying.

Lot of strong winds on the Lancashire coast & sand drifts. Try ride in the middle so you have room for evasive action in case the wind blows you into the curb or oncoming traffic.

Something I've found helpful is while riding close to the centerline, when a truck or other large vehicle is approaching in the opposite direction weave to within a few feet of the outside of your lane (far from the other vehicle as possible) and duck your head and shoulders down. This helps to reduce your body acting as a sail and getting hit by road blast.
Also, don't ever ride a V-Rod or Fatboy with solid rims on a windy day.

When I ride up to WY it gets pretty bad but, it depends on the bike. My current bike has real good ergonomics making it slice the wind pretty good. I haven't taken it on the super slab just yet but I kind would like to know how she does
