For what's it's worth, I've been blipping the throttle of my '82 to find neutral since the day I rode it off the showroom floor in '82.

Ha ha. Thanks for letting me know. I’m laughing my a$$ off.

Let me try flipping the throttle. But it will be a while before I can really try it while riding. It’s still too freaking cold. I just finished the restoration. So I am ready to ride it.

My last Ironhead I rode was in the early 80s. That was a 79 as well. So I just don’t remember all that yesteryear stuff.

My later Harley’s seem to have no shifting issues. And if they did I probably just finagled whatever finagling I had to do LOL.

Anyway, thanks so much for your reply. It is very much appreciated.

Shortly I will also look at the link you posted.

You said the magic word, "cold".

Neutral will be significantly harder to find on a cold motor, once the trans oil warms up a wet clutch will not drag near as much.

That would make sense. I’ll have to wait and see how the shifting to neutral goes once the weather warms up so I can ride the bike. Hopefully later this week.

Thanks for your replies and input. One of you suggested to blip the throttle at the time of the shift. Another one of you suggested that shifting may be hard with cold oil.
Well for my bike both are the right.
I let my bike warm up and then rode her around my circular driveway.
The oil was warmed and I blipped the throttle when shifting.
Result: It shifted from first to neutral and second to neutral almost effortless.
