1971 front brake shoe fitment help (Or why can't I find shoes to fit?!?)
Replacing the front brake shoes on my 71. The hub/drum is original.
I look up replacement brake shoes in my parts book and see 41849-64. After some searching I find 23-0525 may also be a contender.
I've ordered 2 sets now from reputable online supplies. First set was way too narrow. Probably 3/8" or so. The set I received today is better but still about 1/8" narrower than what came off the bike. Am I doing something wrong or is this kind of variance expected in aftermarket parts? The first set was from Drag Specialties and the second from VTwin.
Both websites said this part fits 71 Harley Davidson Sportster XLH900 specifically.
Any thoughts or ideas? Return shipping is getting expensive.

I have felt your frustration. The rear shoes are easy to locate but the front shoes are a crap shoot and the aftermarket material is of questionable quality.
For the front brakes I took mine to a brake shop and had them relined and arc to the drum.

front brake shoes
You might try calling an indy like Bill's Custom Motorcycles in PA to discuss your fitment issues.Bill's website has a good used brake set ($40) or new linings with rivets ($15)
