Default drive system 'singing'

While riding my '12 1200 Custom yesterday I noticed a whining, or singing noise coming from what I believe is the belt or pulley. It began when were on a downslope with lagging throttle. I pulled in the clutch and the noise continued. It was quite noticeable, so I stopped to check the drive belt (the part that is visible) and found nothing unusual, same with the rear pulley. Is there an explanation for this, or is it a part of the Harley 'mystic'.

Could be an over tight primary chain.

perfectly normal for the belt to make noise and especially so when running out of normal direction of travel. they even make special belts for the noise but i find then not worth while.
