That's what a lot of people do as I have read.
Obviously, it's not my preference. And I don't have to do that to keep oil off my filter.
Same as always though, more ways to skin a cat.

No umbrellas. No mess.

In the link I gave earlier, you'll see that XLF member, TPEHAK, dissected one.
It does have an umbrella.

The original Krankvent did have a reed.
They went out of business and the Hayden Krankvent turned into an umbrella in a cannister.

It's kind of funny.
So many people try to run from umbrella valves and the industry supporting HDs keeps running to them.

your machine your dollar
less lubrication
less cooling
dirtier engine
yes, there is changes with heat. newer truly syn oils are diff animals. there is less of a change due to molecular engineering. there are still compared to old standards, same as tire because people are sooooo used to the older spec's.
if i did not have a guitar on the bench, i could find the info but i would not be making money.
the theory is that when cold, the chain stays long so it flows freely but as heat is added, the chain curls up which reduces flow rate and the oil become more tenacious. take a box, put a hole in it and put diff size marbles in it and roll it around, the marbles will jam up at the hole. now put same size marbles and they flow out the hole better.
most all syn on the OTC are not syn at all but legally a mfg can claim it to be if it is significantly diff than base stock. most are petroleum based. some bases are made from natural gas and it is cleaner than petroleum base and since it is significantly diff, classed as a syn but it is petroleum based!
