That's the problem You need to measure the levels to get good results.

Doesn't the FSM tell you to pour in X amount of oil, pump the forks, fully collapse them and suck out oil to a specified level? The amount they say to pour in is excessive and some is meant to be pulled out when you set the levels.

Doing half the proceedure gives half-assed results...

Do what you want. It is easier to just pour oil in.

Pouring in oil is the FIRST part of the procedure, pulling the levels down to a specified level is the LAST part.

Start at 8" and do the ride and check the tie position. For the travel under braking check get on the front brake HARD not just kinda hard.

The oil levels determine how progressive your forks are and how much travel you use. Levels too high and there will be fork travel you're never using, too low and under hard braking you can be on the hydraulic bottoming stop. When you're on the stop the forks stop working until they extend 'til they're just off the stops. Under really hard braking you want to see your tie probably 3" (minimum) from the triple clamp. More and you're not using the available travel. It's balancing act, preload (sag and ride height) on one end and oil levels (travel used) on the other.

I haven't abandoned this. I did the oil level change and then got sick AF before I could test it. I hope to feel better soon.
