I just turned 55 last week. I've been riding since 16.
My first Harley was a '85 XLX that i rode until a left turning driver took it away in '98. I replaced it with an Evo XLH883 that I still own and love at almost 85k miles.
I've missed my IH since I lost it, and last week I bought myself another. Birthday present to myself? Don't know, but even my wife was behind the purchase. I'm the new owner of an '83 XLS Roadster with 24,000 on the clock. It's been in storage in a basement in Alaska, but is totally original and all intact. It should be running soon, and looking good by spring! I feel like every old ironhead needs to be saved and ridden, NOT kept stored.

Nice. I would definitely be up for an XLS to keep the 81-XLH company here.

Easy Ireeman, it was the 80s you know! She was 25 there and the Bonneville was a '79.

I’m 55. Got my first IH (and first HD) about 7 years ago. Always Japanese bikes before that. Mostly 70s Honda street bikes. First bike was Yamaha DT100 in 1977.
I don’t like cheap plastic crap. I like antique things that are still working.
When I was looking around for a HD I was drawn to the IH because I associate them with working class folk and a DIY approach to things.

I am getting ready to turn 65. Back in 75' a friend let me take a ride on his new Sporty. It was raining but that didn't stop me for, you see, I had never ridden a big Harley Davidson before. His was a black AMF with extended front end, buckhorn bars, kind & queen seat, and open pipes. Down on River Road I let her rip....... flying through the night air with the rain stinging my face and arms the bike reached a top speed of 120 MPH (indicated, of course). It was the most thrilling ride I had ever had. Needless to say, the Sporty bug bit me hard. Through the following years ownership of many bikes has fallen upon me. Having owned everything from Hondas to Moto Morinis and still owning many Japanese and European (mostly European) bikes there is just something very special about an Ironhead Sportster. Currently in my possession are four Sporties. One Evo and three Ironheads. Even though I owned a couple of Big Twins, the Sportsters are the "real Harleys" to me.
