IMHO before you even start there are some fundamental questions you have to ask yourself:
1. What exactly am I looking for in performance? Low end power or high end top speed? Some combination?
2. Is this a track build or a street build? Depending on the answer your approach to performance parameters will be different. If you are building a track racer you can pretty much do what you want. Racing engines are typically rebuilt after every race, if you have the resources for that you can pretty much do what you want. If it is a street build you have to take operational and maintenance costs into consideration.
3: How long do you plan on keeping the bike? Ahh yes. The candle that burns twice as bright only burns half as long. If you are just planning to keep it a couple years and unload it , that's one thing. If you plan on keeping and riding for a while ( I have been riding my Sportie for 16 years) you definitely need to keep the mods street friendly. Overpowered Sportsters are maintenance nightmares. So unless you have a military maintenance budget I would advise against it. I would especially stay away from the 88 inch kits for the sportie. It will shred your bottom end and drive train in short order.

I will start a Thread about the conversion once I start getting right into it.

Do break-in very accurately, I had moderate scratched pistons at 1275 despite all breakin recommendations. And some funny issue with oil leak.
