It's certainly not billet, which it should be.
Cast ain't gonna hold up well no matter how thick.

Alignment bar is a bandaid.
They should use better material or start using them for license plate backing in my opinion.

In this photo, it looks as there is no flat washer between the lock washer and the bracket. It also looks as the crack is exactly where the lock washer split (the sharp edge) is digging into the bracket.

If I am seeing this correctly, the lockwasher as installed is likely the cause of the failure.

If I were to install a new bracket, I’d want larger OD flatwashers between the lock washers and the bracket.

However,
it would be simple to copy/fabricate the bracket in mild steel for piece of mind.

Please note that aside from this issue, I am extremely happy with the performance of my UltraCool oil cooler. I just have to figure out a way to prevent this, or something worse from happening again in the future. Here are pics of the damaged bracket.






Definitely Keep us informed. Really sorry that happened. I have a 2016 iron 883 with the hammer 1275 top end. And I also have the same ultra cool oil cooler as you. I haven’t gotten around to installing it yet and I’m glad I caught this and read this before hand. I am very sorry this happened to you and I definitely hope you’ll keep us all informed as I would like to find out what they say and if they offer any fix. Good luck my friend

I received the new bracket which is still made out of cast aluminum, but slightly modified, in that the bracket now has threaded inserts with more threads.This is to allow the mounting screws to have a more solid anchoring point when attaching the bracket to the baseplate, which mounts to the left side of the oil cooler cover. It also came with the aforementioned aluminum alignment bar to ensure the clamps on the down tubes are perfectly aligned. I can actually say the upon installing the alignment bar I noticed the bottom clamp was not in perfect alignment with the top clamp, which likely caused stress to the bottom tab on the bracket when tightened to the lower clamp. Note: See pic from updated instruction manual below. The UltraCool Tech told me that this could lead to stress and eventually result in the tab breaking. He also said that they had seen this before; leading them to tweak the design a bit, add the alignment bat and revised instructions.

I took the bike out today and the cooler seems to be mounted rock solid again. I think I’d still like to have a bracket made from mild steel, but would like it to be made to the exact same dimensions/design as the supplied bracket.
