One of my all time favorite aircraft - Lockheed SR-71 Blackbird

On July 28, 1976, the SR-71 set two World Records in separate flights:
Altitude in Horizontal Flight = 85,068 feet
plus Absolute Speed Record = 2,193.17 mph

Never Mind - They're out of service now.

But find one of the museums that have them on display. If you are an aviation buff, you'll really enjoy seeing it. I visited the Smithsonian Udvar-Hazy Center (aviation museum) next to Dulles Int'l Airport (near Washington, DC). This center not only has an SR-71 Blackbird but also has the Enola Gay, a Space Shuttle and a French Concorde. This Center has these very large air crafts, rocket displays, satellite displays, civilian aircraft and early flight craft displays. The Udvar-Hazy Center museum is in addition to the downtown DC Smithsonian Air & Space Museum. Both museums are a must visit for aviation enthusiasts. You can find many stories online from those who have actually had the privilege of flying one of these beautiful birds.
