Default '74 Front Brake Caliper leaking

I am trying to rebuild a '74 front caliper and am having an issue with brake fluid leaking out past the cylinder. Its got a new cylinder and O-ring and was a snug fit going back together. Am I correct that the only seal to keep brake fluid in is that O ring? If so do you think maybe I just don't have one that's tight enough? The one I got came in the rebuild kit. I was questioning if the friction ring, which is also new might have anything to do with it. From what I can tell that isn't a seal though, not actually sure what its true function is.

I can post pictures if you need them, just seeing if anyone has some advice on what I could check/try next. I'm using the stock master cylinder that is also freshly rebuilt, new lines with fresh fluid. Running Dot 5.

pictures do help
you cannot use a o-ring in that application. the seal is a quad ring and must be install a certain way.
when you apply hyd pressure, the puck moves outward and the edge of the quad ring rolls out against the wall and makes a seal, when pressure is removed, the puck will move back a tad as the quad ring reforms its shape which leaves the pads just floating above the disk.
also, is the caliper bore smooth without and pits, even a tiny scratch will cause a leak, been there done that one hydraulic crane winches.

From memory; I believe the Quad ring was used in the Banana Caliper... I thought Oring in Pie Slice??

Yup, I have read through that several times. Obviously I'm doing something wrong but I did everything that article depicted same as he did.

I'm using O-ring #22 in the caliper diagram in the manual. Not sure about a quad ring, this one is part number 4427-74 which is supposed to be the correct one for a '74 caliper. This is a pie slice caliper.

the 4427-74 is an o-ring and not a quad ring
was the caliper honed out?
also when installing the puck, did you rotate the puck as you pressed it into the bore? with brake fluid as a lube, it helps to keep the o-ring from rolling in the groove which can mess it up.
the friction ring helps keep the puck square to the bore as a cocked over puck will stick and probably leak as well.
i have the exact same caliper on my 74 and nary an issue.

The caliper is not honed out, just got the old crusty piston out of it and wiped it down good. Guess I thought the O-ring was what sealed it up, not the actual bore of the cylinder. If the cylinder walls are supposed to be sealing it up then mystery solved there, cause they are not in the best shape.

the o-ring is the seal. but a sloppy fit doesn't do it any good.
the issue could also be the puck itself.
have you measured everything?
also corrosion in the ring groove can by-pass fluid, doesn't take much.
we fought a crane winch, tore it down several times and it still leaked. finally we rolled the part around in the sunlight and detected a micro scratch, could not feel it by running finger nail over it, but changed the parts and leak stopped.

I think corrosion is what the issue is. I tore everything apart again and did a more deep clean and found a chewed up section of the lip at the top of the cylinder. It makes sense, the piston that came out of it was very corroded. I found another caliper online that I'm gonna try out and see if I can't get it working. Don't think there's much I can do in way of repairing what I have unless you have suggestions. Appreciate all the help!
