So, what are we lookin at here ... 4 inches of travel in the rear, maybe seven inches of travel up front ... on a 475 lb +/- street bike with knobbies. Keep on keepin on.

Is that a 2001 XLS? I want details on that fork swap!
I'm slowly building my dirtster/street tracker and have been stumbling over finding a good front end solution.

I like it!!!!
it looks suspiciously like a 98-03 XL1200S Sportster Sport to start with and im leaning later as the 4 pistons bolt up...
I have 2 sets of of those shocks and forks/triple trees in my shed... Those are the showa compression rebound and preload adjustable bits. I found them way to softly for the street....
the XR1200X Kit Bits are 10X better... I have them on my 99s and 83XR Tracker

Yes, minimal with the stock swingarm length, but I have an aluminum swingarm ordered with 4” of stretch which will allow 8-9” travel to balance with the front end. I do plan to weigh it, but haven’t yet.
No, it’s not as refined as a manufacturers production bike, and I have more work to do, but it hasn’t cost me $10k+ either. I like the look and sound. There’s plenty of torque and hp with the Hammer set up and I can flat foot it with 10-1/2” of ground clearance (less the bash plate).

2002 1200S. The front end I went with is a KTM Adventure 990. It’s a straight swap, but I had work done on the forks and shortened them 1-3/4”.
If you’re familiar with Rusty Butcher on IG. He runs Honda dirt bike front ends and has them shortened and sprung by RaceTech.

You nailed it. As above, it’s an ‘02 1200S model. I swapped the top end with a top end off an ‘08 1200 efi with Hammer cylinders, ect. Runs great.
The sportster S front end was reworked by RaceTech and performs well. Pretty well for a 2002 pre-cartridge fork.

Who makes the lift blocks you’re referring to? The ones on this are Hughe’s Handbuilt and I’m running his tensioner blocks and axle saver.
