Why does the forum sign me out every time

This is terribly frustrating. For the past month or two, using the forum on my phone, I have to sign in each and every time I go back to look at the forum.

I don’t even close the browser window that is open to the forum. But I set down my phone to get on with life and next time I open the forum page it is full of advertising and I have to sign in again.

this started happening Right after I went in to settings to change my email address from gmail to my other email address. I can’t imagine how that can be related - but it is related in time at least.

Very annoying. Does anyone know how to fix this?

Edit: this only happens on my phone. My computer stays signed in as usual. My phone used to stay signed for ever it seemed and suddenly now it’s every time I pick up the phone it is signed out again. I didn’t make any other changes on my phone other than changing the email address in my profile.

Don't know but I always "time out" using my desktop.
I spend too much time typing in SP, look back to the forum (browser stays on main page) and have to sign back in.
Been like that for years with me.

Do you use the 'Remember Me' check box when you log in?
(If not, the forum may/will unlog you when you change pages)

Did you do that after changing your email?




If YES to above, it may also be related to your phone cookies / cache. Can you flush that?

A quick web search about vBulletin seems to indicate there may be a difference (depending on the website settings) between logging in to the website with www.bbb.com rather than simply bbb.com or switching back & forth between devices...

Did you do that after changing your email?

Yes. Did it many times but after I saw that it made no difference I didn’t do it every time any more.

Bingo! That’s it. Last night I googled how to flush cookies and cache on iPhone, closed my forum browser window, did: Settings >> Safari >> clear history and website data. Then I opened up the forum, selected “remember me” and signed in. I got up this morning and am still signed in.

Edit: And now that I think about it, it makes sense. There was probably a cookie saved that was identified by my user email address. So after I changed my email address in settings, that old cookie was no longer working. That is clearly a bug. If that is what happened then vbulletin programming should have a method to avoid this happening. It should have a function built in that when someone changes their email address in user settings, that it automatically creates a new cookie. I don’t know if that is a part of vbulliten that Bert would have access to fix. If not he could submit a bug fix request.
