Default How do I quiet down my V&H pipes?

No, not that. I like that noise.

I'm talking about the baffles rattling so loud I can't hear the nice tone of my Python's.

I tried using a C clamp with the puck removed, so it created a nice round dent in the back side of the muffler right where the top section of the baffle sits. That made no difference.

Epoxy may help but it would probably just wipe off as I insert the baffle. I was thinking maybe drill a hole in the muffler, and then reinsert the baffle and inject some epoxy somehow, but then I wonder if the baffle will ever come out again.

Any ideas?

I had this issue with an old cheap set of pipes on my Road King.

I ended up using fibreglass muffler packing, some clamps and a little redneck ingenuity. It worked pretty good right up until I changed the pipes.

Might be worth a shot.

Can you explain that better? How did you get the packing to slide up into position without blocking the baffle?

My problem became evident when I went to Drag Specialties engine mounts. This thing vibrates so bad that only the wife likes it. I have carpal tunnel and it's killing my hands too. I recently picked up a stock front mount, and as soon as I get some time I am going to change that leaving the DS mount in the rear. I'm hoping that the stiff mount in the rear will keep the belt play from changing in turns and the softer one up front will help with the vibration. I hope that isn't a disaster, but I need to try something, and maybe this will lessen all the knocking sounds that came along with the stiff mounts.

Im not sure what kind of baffles you have but what I did was pretty similar to this: https://goo.gl/images/PY4QH6

It gave it more of a snug fit and stopped the annoying rattle. I also thought it made the exhaust some back little better but that could've just been all in my head.

I also drilled a "set-screw" into the pipe to hold the baffle in place better. Pretty sure I just used a self tapper through the side of the pipe that faces the frame.

Thanks for the link Hex. I see it was CitySlicker who started that thread. I am still deciding weather to put an additional screw in the front of both baffles, or pull them out and make that far end oval like suggested. Both should fix it, but the screw will not have a nut so it probably won't last very long.
