Default KT - 2021 - You're In It Now

I'll be posting a few of my ride pictures (on Kool Therapy) in this thread
but most of the pictures and my actual ride reports will be posted at

My Motorcycle Chronicles website: >>HERE<<

You're In It Now!

Here's another WWII movie I really enjoy. In the trailer for this 1961 war thriller, the star, Gregory Peck, promises this is probably the most exciting movie you will ever see! With other stars, David Niven, Anthony Quinn, James Darren & Irene Papas, 'The Guns of Navarone' is indeed an exciting film. I can enjoy it again & again.

Peck confronts Niven with the line: "You think you've been getting away with it all this time - Standing By. Well, Son, your bystanding days are over. You're in it now, up to your neck!"

=================================================

This winter has been cold and rainy. By that, I mean temps below 50° and it seems it rains at least twice a week or more. Like last year, we have had only one snow fall worth mentioning, so far. Despite the Coronavirus Panic still surging, I'm hoping 2021 will provide the opportunity to ride even more than last year.

Just like last year, my first ride of the year is on January 2.

The high temperature for the day (barely 50°) was still cold but not freezing.
I only rode for about 30 miles, but it was enough to get the blood flowing.

You can enjoy more details of all my rides this year

Good on you Ken, and I might add that I was able to do a couple hundred miles on my annual New Years Eve run. Mostly up into the “thumb”, came in just after 2:00 a.m. as was getting quite cold. Temps were in the low 20F’s but little wind with clear skies and a full moon. Was awesome cruising with the thunder flowing out behind me as I enjoyed one of the better rides. Really clears the cobwebs and sharpens the senses, makes me feel truly alive. Best wishes to one and all!

I was out riding again. It was 44° when I got started in the afternoon, but it fell to 33° before I got back home.

I rode to Gettysburg and revisited Howard Avenue and Barlow's Knoll. There were some other monuments in that area that I wanted to visit.

Then, I rode across town to visit Zeigler's Grove which was part of the defense against Pickett's Charge.

This is a monument to Brigadier-General Alexander Hays, commanding the Third Division of the Second Army Corps
at Gettysburg. He was trained at West Point and became friends with U.S. Grant. He served in the Mexican War,
then tried various civilian work. He had returned to Pennsylvania when the Civil War began and immediately
enlisted, being commissioned a Major for the 12th PAV. He raised a 3-year regiment in August of 1861,
becoming the Colonel of the 63rd PA Volunteers. He was said to be kind and caring, but he loved
the military, being disciplined and stern regarding military duty of himself and his men.

Although at one time a local politician in Venango county (PA), during his military service he had no sympathy
for the vascillating Congress. In a private letter, written to his friend, PA Governor Curtin, he said,
“If our Representatives in Congress can’t purge our National Halls from the foul taint of treason
and sedition, we can fumigate with gunpowder and let out corrupt blood with the bayonet.”

More can be read here: http://npshistory.com/series/symposia/gettysburg_seminars/12/essay7.pdf

Like always, I rode away from Gettsyburg moved by the conflict and the bravery. It was a cold ride home.

You can read more about my rides, not only for this year, but for the past 8 years at My Motorcycle Chronicles.
