Back in 1968 in the Air Force we had bunks stacked three tall to save space in the tiny room. Basic military pipe beds. The guy on the top bunk did exactly that jumping down from that bunk and the ring caught on the open end of the pipe. Stripped the skin off his finger. We were all in electronics and none of us were supposed to wear rings for that very reason and also because they considered them an electrocution hazard.
To this day I do not wear rings or any other jewelry for that matter.

Never worn rings of any kind, or watches either. I prefer having all my fingers.

Only when going out, never at my day job. Too dangerous.
I wore one when I was a working musician to help keep the vampires away.
