Default Battery reversed, bike dead

Uh, I installed my battery leads in reverse. Positive to ground and Negative to the starter. Now all electrics are dead. Where do I start trouble shooting? What was most likely damaged?

I think it depends on the year of the bike, but nowadays bikes are protected by connecting the wrong terminal by diodes (=current can only go one way). Check the fuse(s) first.

Maybe this will get you some idea's:

Maxi fuse on 2001. Just change that big fuse near the battery.

@rejeanprimeau. Not seeing the 'big fuse' near the battery. Just the circuit breaker. Not finding one in my wiring diagram for this 01 Sporty. Any other suggestions?

Will this help?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QrWk_Av_KMw

However, I don't know the year of that bike in the video. I got a '92 myself so I only have breakers. Don't know in what year they switched to fuses.

Someone will definately know here.

When you're having issues with the electrical system, use this Sportsterpedia section about
checking the battery cables, voltages and grounds - DO THIS BEFORE ANYTHING ELSE:
http://sportsterpedia.com/doku.php/t...place_to_start

General Diagnostics - Including Won't Turn Over & Won't Start
http://sportsterpedia.com/doku.php/t...k:ref:genmsr01

Do you have a multimeter? Make sure all the grounds are clean and good contact....

Disconnect the Regulator to Battery Connector...

Then, trace power from the battery to the Starter Solenoid - Then to the Main Circuit Breaker (CB) - then to the Keyswitch...

If all of that is good continuity, then power on the keyswitch - Check for power from the Keyswitch to the Individual Fuses:
Accy Key Position .. should power up the Accy Fuse (ORANGE/White wire)
Run Key Position .... should power up the other Fuses:
---- Ignition Fuse (GRAY wire)
---- Instrument Fuse (ORANGE wire)
---- Lights Fuse (BLUE Wire)

If all that verifies good - you should have power on the system...

Then - test the stator:
Sportsterpedia - Check your Alternator/Stator

Then check the regulator:
http://sportsterpedia.com/doku.php/t...tage_regulator

Once all that checks out, then reconnect the stator to the regulator & the regulator to the battery...
