Hey Dan,
I didn't know you could use 883 pistons in the 1212 conversion! Seriously though, are cams and ignition a must have or can you get a way with stock?

The factory 883 cams and ignition will work but they are both very weak. Those were my "must haves" as I like a bike to be able to pull at least to 6,500 rpms. To do that ignition and cams need upgrading.

Yeah, I guess it is a dead horse for some people and I know this information is out there in the forum, but jeez how many threads and posts do you have to look at to find it all?

I have a Screamin' Eagle ICM (RPM up to 7k) would that suffice for a must have?

And what is a typical cost for a gasket set and what gaskets would I need?

Default Question about cams.

I found a descent deal on Andrews N4 Cams and I am thinking about making that my 1st purchase for the conversion. My questions is I am still unsure about what I will do with my heads. I may leave the 883 heads stock (unlikely), I may have the 883's worked (more likely) or I may get 1200 heads and have them worked (very possible if I find a deal). Will the N4's be a good fit for all three options or should I wait and figure out what route I am going to take with the heads? Like I said, it is a good deal on the N4's.

Good point, and for this reason, and the fact that I do not see
another sticky in this section that covers a parts list for an
883 --->> 1200 conversion, I am making this a sticky for now..

What cams would you use if you started with a 04 and later 1200cc Cylinders, Pistons, Heads and SE-II (7K rev) ignition? All stock HD stuff from 04. Going onto a 05 883. Durabilty wanted here not nessicarily the top performace and of course reasonable priced option.

And then what Gasket kit would you opt for for these?

I would put a set of SE Bolt in 497 cams or N4's with that combo. Those are a good grind for daily riding as well as good upper rpms power if you feel the need to really get after it. I'd set the rev limiter to about 6500 to 6800 tops.

What about 1200 heads(maybe a NRHS Stage 1 or 2) and my 883 cyl.'s bored to 1212. What kind of cam then? Would the .536 be too much?
