Default Choke cable with HSR 42

I have always been fighting with the stock choke cable being too long when installed with my Mikuni 42. It sticks out quite a ways past the mounting bracket.
When I push it back it is hard not to get it to bind or increase the idle speed due to the line flexing.
Has anyone else experienced this?
Would the Mikuni cable work better in a case like this?

I know this is an old post, but I have the Mikuni cable and it sticks out about 2.5" farther than it should. I'll be shortening the cable over the winter.

Did you ever find a solution?

The solution was simple. I just pushed the cable onto the mount and made sure it didn't bind and stick and had the needed slack in the knob once installed. It actually wasn't a big deal as I thought when I posted this.

There's no chance of that working on mine. I'll just shorten it myself over the winter. I'm sure a bicycle shop can crimp on a new ferrule for me.
