Default Trackiing/data mining tactics.

These days it's coming to light that "third party" tracking is a lot more wide spread than was previously thought and has gotten very sophisticated.
Under the guise of making our internet "experience" more convenient and personalized; Tracking us and our interests has become big business.
Everything from Google searches to having location services enabled can pin-point us. GPS can tell where we go and how long we stay in one spot = what stores we shop.
Searches tell what we're looking for/at on the internet. Ever notice that after a search we're bombarded with ads for the item(s) we've been browsing?
Nowadays, the "guests" visiting forums can be computers reading posts and forming pretty accurate demographics including interests and what we believe or dismiss/ what politics we espouse.

I've gotten more protective of my personal information so when I see questions asking about my age group, what weapons I might shoot or own, how my antique bike is registered, what I think of this or that politician... I can't help but wonder what kind of file I'm helping to compile on myself.
I dropped as much of Yahoo as I could when I read their latest Terms of Service and Privacy agreements. According to them; Yahoo, AOL,Verizon and something called OATH can access my incoming and outgoing emails, open any attachments including using any images without acknowledgement or compensation-- (so much for anything like copyright protection or family pictures being personal property). AND... if you refuse to agree to the TOS or Privacy, then use any link or app they have controlling interest in like Mapquest-like programs for instance, using that app constitutes agreeing to their TOS.
Images can be screened to pinpoint surroundings with a simplified version of programs like facial recognition; Is that your kid's school in the background? Is that your house number or license number showing in the pictures of your favorite truck or car?
Post your vacation itinerary on social media and you've just told any bad guys lurking around when you'll be out of town and for how long.

It may be a down hill battle but why make it any easier for the bad guys than it already is?

Agree. I've been saying for ages how we are watched and would not have one of those "Lexa's" in the house. Listening all the time. Even tablet phones are doing it unless you turn it off.
And the latest electronics in cars will soon be seeing where you are /how long you stay etc and have the ability to control your speed on roads.
Orwellian.

What would you think turning off the location setting in Facebook does? turn off location tracking? no, it changes the methods they use to track you, but Facebook says this is Ok because they tell you this in the small print.

I have a 2013 Land Rover LR2 and was reading the owners manual and found a paragraph that tells you the car is logging everything you do, speed, throttle position, braking, the lot and of course it has built in Sat Nav so tracks location, it goes on to say Land Rover can access this information and will give it to the Police if they ask for it, so much for privacy!

Try using the 'Disconnect' add-on in your Firefox browser. Get rid of Chrome. ...and don't use Facebook of course...
