if it has the clutch alternator, then the two wires of the same color connect to the pmg pigtail and it does not matter which is which, the other to the battery.
you cannot use a dc reg with an ac reg system. although with engineering it can be done but why go there.

new charge controller:
without light and at higher speeds 15 volts and then regulates down. normally???
