Default Engine light

So I just hit 20k kilometers last month and decided to do some maintenance.Oil change (20/50 Castrol); primary fluid change (amsoil vtwin fluid); new plugs (NGK iridium); Drag specialties 8.8mm wire set, and I finally rejetted up to 180/46 to better accommodate the Arlen Ness intake and Bassani pipes. The idle is around 1020 and the bike idles and performs very nicely at low speed and at the top end. But…for the first time since I’ve owned the bike (5.5 years) the engine light is coming on. Sometimes at idle for about 15 seconds or so, and more often while cruisin on the highway. On the highway it can stay on for 40 or 50 seconds before it shuts off.
It doesn’t seem to matter how fast I’m driving or what gear I’m in…its all kinda random.

Does that light indicate anything specific ?

thx

Here's the Sportsterpedia page regarding checking your DTCs (Diagnostic Trouble Codes):

http://sportsterpedia.com/doku.php/t...k:ref:genmsr08

Start there... Report back the codes...

Do you have the Security Feature (TSSM) on the Turn Signal Module (TSM)?

This is the first time I’ve ever heard of it? Would I know it if I had one?

You should know if you are setting any kind of security when you park the bike. Do you have a key fob?

Here's the Sportsterpedia section on the Turn Signal Modules (TSM):
http://sportsterpedia.com/doku.php/t...3#turn_signals

Here's the HD 2005 Sportsters Owner's Manual:
https://serviceinfo.harley-davidson....S%20MANUAL.pdf

There's a section named: H-D Factory Security System.

I went through the procedure as outlined in sportsterpedia for a 2005 but it won’t go into diagnostics mode. I’ll put it on the tender in case the battery is low and try again.

OK…everything worked as advertised. I’ve got overvoltage battery, overvoltage accessory and no crank position data.

I cleared the codes and will go for a ride.

I’m sure theres a regulator test somewhere but what about the ckp …Is it a difficult replacement if necessary?

thx

Here's the Sportsterpedia section on the Regulator (& tests):
http://sportsterpedia.com/doku.php/t...harging_system

Here's the Sportsterpedia section on the CKP:
http://sportsterpedia.com/doku.php/t...shaft_position

Before replacing the CKP sensor, disconnect the connector, clean it thoroughly, then reconnect it & make sure it is fully engaged. Use some dielectric grease in the connector to prevent moisture getting inside.

Clear the codes & check again.

If you must replace the CKP Sensor --- Disconnect the connector to the wiring harness. Remove the screw holding the CKP sensor in place. Install a new CKP sensor in the reverse.
