My 1988 XLH883 sporty build project
Hello first post new member. My first Harley. I’ve had bikes in the past. My last was the first Vmax when they came out.
I’ve been in the Corvette game for about 14 years. On my 3rd one now. A 2010 GrandSport Cammed.
And I had a chance to pick up a friends project he’s had laying around.
hasn’t been registered in 11 years. But it has run in the last few years as my friend was getting it back up and running again.
I know it needs a carb as he said it’s an aftermarket and that’s the issues he was having b4.
Other than that. I know nothing else.
I have an idea of what I’d like it to look like. I’ve posted a picture.
first I need a carburetor. Any suggestions on what I should look for? the one on it is an aftermarket I think not stock.
I’d like to maybe do a 883-1200 conversion if that’s possible. Like I said I’m brand new when it comes to Harleys. So no jokes. Lol.
I like the wheel style. So maybe just powder coat them new tires.
And then go through everything for safety. And see if it runs and drives and shifts.
Id like to either match it to my car. A white and matte black. Or all matte black.
the paint of the tank and fenders is actually in great shape. The tank especially.
So when I do I may wrap it instead of getting rid of the original paint.
So I’m open to any and all suggestions on parts ideas places to shop for parts at a good price.
Thanks in advance.
George.

Here is wishing your Harley experience develops some thick skin for ya.
I have a 12 year old mind in a 6 foot 7 inch body.
Lucky for most I am slow on the take.
Ignore haters. Nice to know where they stand is my view.
I'f you ever get upset. Think to yourself.
" Won't matter a 100 years from now. Thank you for the update."
and have fun on your new bike.
