Lightbulb Repair of TRIM PLATE INDICATOR LAMPS 68513-95A

So, I purchased a very molested XL 883 L 2005, and among the lots of damage there was the speedometer (I talk about it here) AND the trim plate indicator lamps... specifically the oil light was sunken in, I guess they wanted to turn off the oil light just destroying it

This is how I got the motorcycle indicators, big hole on oil light :

So since to pass yearly inspection here I need all the lights AND the speedometer working (to be done), I focused on the lights

I was going to purchase a new bezel, but to my surprise, the P/N 68513-95A aint available anymore (incandescent bulbs)

This is what I needed to buy, OLD PHOTO, NOT MY OWN, THIS PART IS NOT AVAILABLE ANYMORE :

Instead HD has a new part,
68813-07
HARNESS WARNING LAMP ASSEMBLY, W/ LED INDICATOR

and

68513-07B

BEZEL INDICATOR LAMPS

that makes you replace the whole thing with a new led stuff... expensive, and no good

also, I cant get it anywhere! Im at Costa Rica, we dont have Harley dealers here, Harley left the country and USA dealers dont ship outside of USA ... also I could not find any aftermarket part for it...

So thats why the guy sold me the bike so cheap, aint way to make it roadworthy legal and pass the year inspection? nope, Im not going to surrender!

Soo, I took some super glue, some nail polish, a toothpick, a piece of clear plastic, and I dit it my own...

I glued a piece of plastic, and with a toothpick painted it black and red following the outline of the real one

Before and after... keep this in mind if you find yourself in same situation, sharing to help others... also cost was around 0 $...

After

for the speedometer Im cooking a solution too...

Good on you...

Is there some reference that the authorities use to demand that it be an actual OEM part? Do they require the actual OEM part to be on the bike? Or can you simply swap out the indicator panel with some other display panel that shows the same informaton?

If they require OEM, that seems really stupid! Do they have some reference for every bike ever made?

I'm not sure how the procedure is, I'm not from here, I'm stranded here because of the virus ... From what I talked to other motorcyclists, they check that you have all the lights on the dashboard working, and the speedometer should work in kilometers and mark more kilometers than the last time they inspected it in the odometer, to avoid sales fraud (it seems that here it was common for the kilometers of the odometer to be lowered and they put this new law). Having an engine trouble light on is also a reason for failing the inspection ...

Another thing that worries me is the exhaust gases, and the noise, but in my country I already had a trick to overcome that, we will see if it works here too ...

weird, out of all those lights, it's the oil light I definitely wouldn't want to lose.
