Cool Electronic ignition vs. original points/cond?

Just signed in to forum. I need some advice on my 71 900/XLCH. As I know historically these ol' sporty's can be temper-mental starting, I'm thinking I've got some "electrical/sparking" issues goin on that are hampering a 'typical' (2) dry kick, then turn ign on, choke on, gas on, throttle pump and 3rd kick for a start. Recently, I've installed the following items new: factory Bendix carb, plugs, plug wires, battery, voltage regulator, oil change (both motor/trans) and new 5 ohm ign coil. Since I've installed these parts, I've had my sporty started and runnin good goin down the road. However, today I was unsuccessful with gettin it to start
7 years ago I had installed a compu-fire elec ignition. Since then I've had the sporty runnin but it's always been a tough starter. I didn't replace the factory advance for the elec ign.
My seat (with metal underside) is directly resting on the two bolts that are bolting my ignition coil to the frame. Could this be part of my problem?
I'm wondering if I should purchase a new quality mechanical advance and a new electronic ignition. What is the life-span on elec ignitions?
Any advice would be helpful. Ridin my 2005 Road King Classic in the meantime

The seat pressing against the coil mounting bolts is not your problem. Those bolts are simply grounded to the frame, like almost every other bolt. Touching them with something else also grounded, like your seat base, will make no difference.

Regarding life span of electronics, the factory electronic ignition on my 91 has not yet reached the end of its life span.

Thanks Ron. I appreciate your advice on seat not being my problem. I'll continue to work on a process of elimination and/or changing up maybe a new quality mechanical advance/electronic ignition, or perhaps even go back to points/cond.
All I know is coil/wires/plugs/carb are all brand new. I should be getting good spark. I pulled plugs yesterday after faulty start and they were wet/black. I know could be any number of things, i.e., low battery (which is new) bad rings, loose valves, etc. I will keep cranking the leg and will try to find the problem.
At any rate, again, I appreciate your taking the time to respond.
Peace
