Context matters.
When I hang out with Harley people, it's a Harley. When I hang out with Buell people, it's a Buell. When I hang out with motorcycle people who haven't even heard of Buell, it's a cool niche bike. When I hang out with people who don't even know about motorcycles, really, it's cool. What else matters? Oh, right, when I'm buying parts, whether it's a Harley or not depends on the part. When I'm riding it, though, it's just a blast (pun intended).

Eric did what everbody wanted to do....make a Harley that didn't weigh half-ton and had brakes.

It was until they started putting Rotax engines in their Specialized bikes. Dealers didn't like them when they were hyped up Sportsters but I think the Rotax was the last straw.
